Both companies will exhibit at the fair the technology and benefits of Concentrated Solar Energy (CSE), in which sector they aspire to lead the world energy industry.
At the WFES 09, SENER and Torresol Energy will exhibit technological developments in a 42,5 sqm stand, including SENER’s real solar tracker piece (90cm x 80cm x 60 cm), with a pointing mechanism that can be used both in high-concentration photovoltaic solar energy plants (CPV) and in concentrated thermosolar plants (CSP), and models of solar technology, such us the virtual model of the GEMASOLAR plant.

Torresol Energy will present Gemasolar, their flagship project and the world’s first solar plant with central tower, heliostat technology, with molten salts store system. The plant will be built in Andalusia (Spain) and will be able to provide clean and safe energy to more than 30,000 homes, save more than 40,000 tonnes CO2 emissions per year and create more than 1,500 jobs in the area.

Gemasolar is Torresol Energy’s first project, developed with central tower and heliostat technology, with a system for storing the heat in molten salts, and is also the first commercial plant that applies this type of technology commercially in the world. Salts are kept molten using the solar energy collected from the heliostats, so that they store excess accumulated heat during sunshine hours, which makes it possible to continue to produce electricity even when there is not enough solar radiation. Thanks to this system, Gemasolar’s autonomy will be 15 hours without sunlight.

Besides, as part of the World Future Energy Summit Conference Programme, Álvaro Lorente, Torresol Energy CEO, will participate in the Solar Thermal Stream scheduled on 20 January 2009.

Torresol Energy is the joint venture between the SENER and MASDAR, Abu Dhabi’s alternative energy company, to promote the development and exploitation of concentrating solar power (CSP) plants in the world’s sunbelt regions. It comes from the common vision of both companies to build a leading global player for the generation of reliable power from solar energy and contribute to the protection of the environment for present and future generations.
