Central tower receiver, heliostats and molten salts storage technology

Torresol Energy promotes GEMASOLAR 2006 S.A., the only commercial scale demonstration project under development consisting of central tower receiver, heliostats and molten salts storage energy system.

GEMASOLAR 2006, a 17 MW plant, is the Torresol Energy most advanced technological venture in solar energy. In fact, Torresol Energy is the first company in the world to apply this molten salt storage system in commercial plants.

In addition to that, Torresol Energy is also the promoter and investor of two new 50 MW plants in Spain, TERMESOL 50 S.A. and ARCOSOL 50 S.A., which will include all technological developments as, for instance, the SENERtrough System.

The main advantages of the central tower technology with thermal storage are:

• The molten salts storage allows for an independent electricity generation without sun irradiation for 15 hours.
• An outstading improvement of the energy efficiency, since it ensures electricity production during 6,500 hours a year, 2.5 to 3 times more than other renewable energies such as wind or photovoltaic energy.
• Once operational, the GEMASOLAR 2006 plant will be capable of generating electricity equivalent to the consumption of 30,000 households.
