Torresol Energy - Reinventing Solar Power
Idioma / Language:   Castellano   English
 Valle 1 and Valle 2:

Valle 1 and Valle 2 are two adjacent solar plants that generate electricity by means of cylindrical-parabolic collectors.

Characteristics of Valle 1 and Valle 2:

  • Rated electrical power per plant: 50 MW
  • Net electrical production expected per plant: 160 GWh/year
  • Solar field: 510,000 m2 of SENERtrough® cylindrical-parabolic collectors
  • Heat storage system: each plant has a heat storage system with seven hours' capacity.

This system permits the generation of electrical power for 4,000 hours a year. The use of concentrated solar radiation as primary energy enables Valle 1 and Valle 2 to supply electricity to 80,000 households and prevent the emission of 45,000 tons of CO2 a year. The energy generated by Valle 1 and Valle 2, which are located in San José del Valle (Spain), will be sent through a high-tension line to the Valle 400 kV substation.

Cylindrical-parabolic collector technology

Valle 1 and Valle 2 use SENERtrough® cylindrical-parabolic collectors that concentrate solar radiation in a central collector pipe through which thermal oil is run and which is fitted with a high-precision optical sensor that monitors the sun from east to west. The hot oil is used to vaporize water which, by means of expansion in a steam turbine, drives an electrical generator that injects the energy into the grid.

These collectors, developed and qualified by SENER, include design improvements that make it possible to reduce the cost of collecting energy and the construction of the plant.
